ISO to Backup and Restore Your Hard Drive

!±8± ISO to Backup and Restore Your Hard Drive

Do you ever calculate the times you have performed operating systems installations? Well, personally, I cannot remember the actual times I have installed Windows for both work and personal. Let me give some rough figures.

Windows 3.11 - 5 times

Windows 95 - 5 times

Windows 98 - 50 times

Windows Me - 5 times

Windows 2000 - 5 times

Linux Red Hat - 3 times

Windows XP Pro - 100 times

Windows Server 2003 - 3 times

Windows Vista - 8 times

Honestly, I never enjoy going through the process of installing any of the operating systems. For those who know me, I will most probably be looking at the progress bar during the installation as if I am very interested. However, I am actually very frustrated and hoping that the progress bar could go as fast as it could be.

Attended Installation

Well, some of you may know that the normal installation through the OS CD or DVD (such as looking at the progress bar and clicking several next buttons) is called attended installation and it is possible that you create your own unattended installation using deployment tools. However, I will not be covering the Windows unattended installation.

Unattended Installation

Most companies use Imaging (ISO) to create a duplicate copy of installed operating system so that they can easily install the exact copy of operating system with their corporate settings to every new machine by extracting the ISO.

ISO Images

- ISO is an archive or a duplicate or backup copy of whatever files that you wish to store

In other words, I create ISO images to backup my entire operating system hard drive data.

Hiren BooCD and Norton Ghost to create ISOs

I use Hiren BootCD, the all in one Dos Bootable CD. One of the software included is Norton Ghost, which can be used to create hard disk images known as ISOs.

ImgBurn

ImgBurn is a Windows program and it's free. You can install it and create ISO images or burn the images into CDs and DVDs.

ImgBurn VS Hiren BootCD

The difference between the two is that ImgBurn needs to be installed as a Windows program and undeniably, a good and easy tool to create ISO images. However, if your hard disk is corrupted, you won't be able to use ImgBurn unless you have dual booting. Thus, you need to use HirenBootCD and Norton Ghost to extract your ISO images to the corrupted hard disk.

The Idea

Simple:

1. Complete an attended installation or manual installation from CD or DVD on one machine

2. Install all the necessary programs that you need such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and the likes

3. Perform operating system updates

After performing the steps above, boot your computer from Hiren BootCD and you will come to a screen for you to select the types of software that are bundled. Choose Norton Ghost from the list and from there, you can create an image out of your partition drive.

The ISO file can be stored in your hard disk for easy access but not in the same drive where you install your operating system. If your computer fails to load or startup properly, you can then pop in Hiren BootCD, boot from the CD and restore the ISO file.

The Practice

My own practice is to have at least two partitions, namely C and D.

- C drive will be the drive where I install my operating system and programs

- D drive will be my document drive

- A copy of ISO created from the C drive will be kept in D drive

Benefit

When operating system is corrupted, none of my document files will be affected when I extract ISO into the C drive. Extracting ISO to C drive will overwrite every data in C drive without any warning. However, after extracting the ISO, you will get the same settings and operating system as of the time when you create the ISO.

What's more? You do not have to go through the process of keying the product key, selecting the time zone, installing the drivers and commonly used programs.

Busy Moms - Help to Get Organized

!±8± Busy Moms - Help to Get Organized

There are 24 hours in a day. No more and no less. It doesn't matter if you're the CEO of the largest corporation or a school cleaner. However, moms are in a unique category. A mom is supposed to be all things to all people and accomplish miracles on a regular basis. The smartest filing system for busy moms is user-friendly and helps her to achieve these miraculous challenges each and every day.

Picture any mother. She has to be a wife, a mother, a sister, a daughter, an auntie, a friend, a chauffeur, cook, cleaner, dishwasher, record keeper, money manager and all-round multitasking super mom. This list is more than enough to exhaust a regular person and it doesn't even include time for sleep, rest or hobbies.

Think about your own circumstances. You may be a man or woman. Either way, you probably agree that moms need some help. The great news is that modern, versatile filing system software can help reduce the amount of time needed to accomplish some of these tasks. This time can then be focused on more important things. A filing system isn't necessarily a grey shabby-looking filing cabinet with a bunch of messy old papers stuffed inside.

Filing systems are already used for so many purposes in every day life which aren't recognized as filing systems. Your computer has files and folders in different places probably saved in a haphazard fashion on your hard drive with some things misfiled or duplicated because you've lost track of them. The shoebox in the cupboard has a pile of paid bills. That's a file. A book shelf files books. That's also a file. As is the shelf under the DVD recorder.

Anything that needs to be stored is a form of filing. Why not make life much easier? When you receive something, you have to make a choice. Action it, archive it for future retrieval if necessary or throw it out. As a mom, think of all the things you have to keep. It's hard enough remembering where everything is, let alone trying to find something that another member of the household has put away because they think differently.

Kids' school reports, paid bills, outstanding bills, bank statements, warranties, cds, DVDs, legal certificates for birth, marriage, divorce, business names, mortgage details, important contact details for family and friends, kids toys, copies of wills and powers of attorney, medical records, insurance details, photos in albums, prescriptions, employment records, tax records and the list goes on and on. You could even keep a file for all the clothing each family member has so you don't waste money needlessly.

Picture your home as it is today. Ninety-five percent of the time, stuff will be strewn throughout the house. It's poor mom's job to find the lost assignment due today. It's also her job to make breakfast, prepare lunches for the kids, write a couple of checks, pay some bills, remember to ring Aunt Dorothy for her birthday, order some flowers to be sent to her, give the kids their pocket money and to juggle all these tasks simultaneously.

Would you remember them all? Probably not! It's time to give mom a helping hand. Using smart filing system software, she can create one simple way to organize everything that needs filing and storing, no matter where it is in the house, the garage, the shed, or in storage.

Instead of using an old fashioned alphabetical system, she can use one where all titles are specific to what they record. For example - bills can be divided into power, telephone, rates, school fees, etc., but can be grouped together as paid or unpaid. They could be filed in monthly, quarterly or yearly or however you want them to be filed.

Your huge DVD collection could be sorted according to genre. CDs can be done the same way. You could have different numbered boxes and make that number part of the title. Kids' reports and school work could be under their names or categories and sub categories. It doesn't really matter what you call them.

It doesn't matter where you store things. The main aim of using an indexed filing system is to standardize so you and your whole family can easily retrieve things without wasting hours searching the house from top to bottom through all the clutter.

Some things may be in a filing cabinet if they're documents. Some may be in drawers, boxes, hanging files, under beds, in the shed or garage, or perhaps stored outside of the residence. If a busy mom can save time when she puts things away and retrieves them again, think of how much free time she'll have to do other things or simply to have a well deserved rest.

Motherhood is the hardest job in existence and it isn't even a salaried position. So why on earth shouldn't moms be able to use the same system that corporations use to save time and money?

Access can be restricted to whoever needs it. Hard copies of the index can be printed off and given to each family member or posted in a convenient place. Perhaps store a copy offsite at a friend's house or at the bank, along with copies of all vital documents and a backup of all computer files.

Mom can run the household like a business and keep track of things more efficiently. A smart document management system can be the foundation for really getting the household organized properly once and for all.

The smartest filing system for busy moms will create a whole new way of life in which there is less stress and more time for the things that really count.

Magnavox MDR513H/F7 HDD-DVD Recorder Digital Tuner Review

!±8± Magnavox MDR513H/F7 HDD-DVD Recorder Digital Tuner Review

The Magnavox MDR513H/F7 HDD and DVD recorder with digital tuner, is a cool gadget that can help you keep your VCR collection. It will convert your VCRs to DVD format and at the same time record TV shows in the hard drive.

It's best to use this unit on digital TVs rather than old analogue TV monitors though. If you need to replace your old VCR anyway, you might as well get this one.

Pros

It has a large 320 gig hard drive that can store about 400 hours of recording. Even if you record all your favorite TV shows, you will still have a lot of space left for more. Another advantage is you can record TV shows and delete commercials from the recording.

You can plug it into your unit and be able to figure out how it works in no time. The manual can be a bit difficult to understand so you may be better off just diving in and exploring the Magnavox MDR513H/F7 HDD and DVD recorder with digital tuner as soon as you get it out of the box.

The unit has a one touch button for recording and a one button dubbing feature. It pretty much works like an old VCR so it won't be complicated to use. The difference is it can record TV shows and produce good quality digital pictures. It definitely has better picture quality than a VCR.

Having one of these is like having a Tivo without paying monthly fees. It's a great replacement to an old VCR considering it has more features and records with better picture quality.

Cons

There are a few quirks to the Magnavox, like the remote control which isn't exactly user friendly or easy to use.

It also can't record a double layer DVD.

Another disadvantage is the lack of USB outlets at the back of the unit. So, you can only connect a limited number of devices to it.

Another quirk is the difficulty of editing titles and burning them into the DVD. It can be done but the procedure isn't easy.

The interface is also not that appealing and it take a long time for the unit to write the disk or copy the disk. These may be reason enough for some people not to buy them if they knew about it.

One more thing that drags the Magnavox unit down down is the way it records movies or programs in wide screen format. The recorded picture look distorted after it converts wide screen formats to a 3 x 4 image. You can resolve this problem by manually tweaking the picture on your TV by switching it to wide screen mode.

If you need to replace your old VCR, you might as well get this unit. It's ability to convert your old VCRs to digital format and other features and its huge memory makes it worth the price. If you think about it, your VCR collection won't have to go to waste, thanks to the Magnavox MDR513H/F7 HDD.

LG BH08LS20 Blu Ray biographer / Liteon BD-Rom drive

Hey youtubers. GRiZLOC here with another video of my PC upgrade. This time i've bought a LG Blu ray writer (burner) Model:BH08LS20 and the reason i have bought the LG is because the LITEON BD-ROM Model: DH4O1S (with the DVD-RAM option) firmware 2P53 is giving me some problems lately. After i've upgraded my Gamiing PC with a new motherboard you can see the MSI X48C Platinum motherboard in another video of mine and since i've upgraded my motherboard i have problems that the Liteon BD-ROM plays and reads some Blu Ray movies (not all of them just a few new ones) and it does read and play all kinds of DVD's and CD's but not all of my Blu Ray movie collection. So if i can find the receipt for this damn thing i'm gonna send it back for now i'm just use the LITEON for some blu ray movies dvd's and cd's. I do not recommend you to buy this LITEON BD-ROM as it is not even 6 months old and i'm having troubles with it. Get a little more cash and go for the expensive LG or Pioneer or some other brand. I think LITEON could make some good optical drives but this is my first blu ray rom from lite-on and i'm disappointed that it only lasted a few months. Okay hope you enjoy the video and talk to you laterrr......
